A New Dawn in Improving Laboratory Capacity and Diagnostic Practice

To formalize laboratory capacity training, there are plans to establish a fully-fledged Microbiology Academy under the leadership of Aga Khan University Hospital Nairobi (AKUHN), supported by bioMérieux Kenya. This academy will focus on training healthcare workers on best practices for microbiological diagnostics, enabling consistent and high-quality diagnostic practices. Additionally, a clinical study titled “Improving Antimicrobial Surveillance and Stewardship in Kenya” is currently under review. This study will address five key AMS-related objectives, aiming to gather prospective data on the antimicrobial resistance (AMR) burden and AMS practices across Kenya. By building diagnostic expertise and collecting crucial data on resistance patterns, these initiatives will provide a solid foundation for improving patient outcomes and advancing the fight against AMR.
