Blood Culture Process Improvement

Eliminating the process of waiting for a second bottle to confirm blood culture positivity has effectively reduced variability in turnaround time (TAT) and work-in-progress for cases with single bottle positivity. This streamlined approach accelerates the reporting of positive cultures, enhancing the speed and consistency of diagnostic workflows. In collaboration with the antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) team, the clinical microbiology laboratory was able to evaluate improvements in TAT and overall workflow, with a focus on quantifying the impact on patient care metrics.
