The Effect of Β-Glucans on LAL Activity in Pre-Treatment Water

OVERVIEW

The efficacy of recombinant Factor C (rFC) for bacterial endotoxin testing (BET) has been proven with multiple peer-reviewed papers comparing rFC with LAL. Non peer-reviewed data has been circulating looking at the Limulus amebocyte lysate (LAL) and rFC reactivity of pre-treatment deionized water. There are some simple experiments that show the activity with LAL is more than just endotoxin. In this webinar series we take a closer look at this data.

DISCUSSION POINTS

  • The inappropriate matrix of pre-treatment (non-characterized) water for comparison studies
  • The effect that beta glucans + endotoxin have on LAL activity even when using beta glucan blocking buffers
  • A few simple experiments that show the results once the b-glucan effect has been neutralized
  • Q & A Forum
