AMR and Associated Risk Factors of Gram-Negative Bacterial Bloodstream Infections in Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital in Ethiopia

SUMMARY

Researchers at Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital (TISH) in Ethiopia used a bioMérieux antimicrobial susceptibility test (AST) solution to determine the microbial profile and associated potential infection risks at their hospital. Findings indicated that pediatric and ICU patients were most affected by bloodstream infections (BSIs) and that S. aureus and E. coli were among the most common carbapenem-resistant organisms detected in the hospital. The authors conclude that special attention and intervention are needed for neonatal and pediatric patients that are more affected by drug-resistant bacterial BSIs.
