Performance of the VITEK^® 2 Advanced Expert System (AES) as a Rapid Tool for Reporting Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing (AST) in Enterobacterales from North and Latin America

SUMMARY

Generation of antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) results is one of the most important roles of the clinical microbiology laboratory to guide antimicrobial therapy and combat the increasing spread of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). This study evaluated the performance confidence level of automated, rapid reporting tools for validating AST results for a challenging set of Enterobacterales isolates from 73 medical centers in 7 countries in North and Latin America. Results showed that AES confidence level reporting is a valuable tool for clinical laboratories and the VITEK® 2 ADVANCED EXPERT SYSTEM™ (AES) continues to provide accurate susceptibility testing for Enterobacterales isolates.
