Reducing The Use Of Empiric Antibiotic Therapy In Covid-19 On Hospital Admission

SUMMARY

Natasha N. Pettit, PharmD, and her colleagues at the University of Chicago Medical Center tested guidelines they created for antibiotic initiation and discontinuation for CABP (community-acquired bacterial pneumonia) in COVID-19 patients. The guidelines reduced total antibiotic use for all COVID-19 patients from 74.5% to 42% without any clinical differences observed in patient outcomes.
