COVID-19 in Infants Less than 3 Months: Severe or Not Severe Disease?

SUMMARY

This study offers a detailed look at research results about the prognosis of COVID-19 in children under 90 days old. Although severe and fatal COVID-19 cases are less common in children, a higher risk for progression has been reported in infants, particularly those with underlying medical conditions. This study utilizes data from 216 children less than 90 days old to compare symptoms, severity scoring, and clinical outcomes to previous literature. Concerns are also addressed regarding antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) and the effective treatment of symptomatic infants.
