bioMérieux establishes Antimicrobial Stewardship Centers of Excellence (CoE) across the globe in partnership with hospitals
These partnerships focus on delivering high-value solutions, expertise and service in antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) efforts in order to improve patient care.
AMR is a global health issue that requires a global response. Every year, antimicrobial resistance (AMR) becomes a more serious issue, and the inappropriate use of antibiotic treatment is fueling the emergence and spread of resistant bacteria around the world. AMR is directly responsible for 1.27 million deaths each year and associated with 4.95 million. Investing in AMS is one of the solutions to combat AMR, ensuring that patients receive timely and appropriate antibiotic treatments.
bioMérieux takes a proactive, partnership-driven approach to combating AMR with diagnostic and data-driven solutions to improve stewardship efforts. To further this goal, bioMérieux created the AMS Centers of Excellence (CoE) designation awarded to hospitals around the world as a sign of a joint commitment to best AMS practices.
bioMérieux is currently partnered with nine sites globally across multiple continents, and the number of AMS Centers of Excellence is growing. Current AMS Centers of Excellence include:
- Manipal Academy of Higher Education (India)
- Zhujiang Hospital (China)
- Centre Hospitalier de Valenciennes (France)
- Centre Hospitalo-Universitaire Mohammed VI (Morocco)
- Tampa General Hospital (USA)
- Henry Ford Health (USA)
- Hospital de Niños Roberto del Río (Chile)
- Laboratorio Médico de Referencia- Clínica el Rosario (Colombia)
- Pantai Premier Pathology – Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia)
These sites are leaders in their countries and regions in regards to integrating diagnostics into AMS.
“It is critical that we continue to develop the tools to detect resistant pathogens with accuracy and in a timely manner. We are excited to continue in this journey with bioMérieux with the shared goal of leveraging novel technology to improve patient outcomes." said Linoj Samuel, PhD, D (ABMM), Division Head Microbiology at Henry Ford Health.
“We are convinced that working together will boost the efficiency and the quality of patient care and will show significant improvement in antimicrobial stewardship measures,” said Lt. Gen. (Dr.) M. D. Venkatesh, Vice Chancellor of Manipal Academy of Higher Education.
Working in conjunction with the site’s clinical laboratories, bioMérieux is able to support healthcare professionals across various departments with timely, integrated diagnostic insights to support patient therapy and stewardship intervention. CoE partnerships utilize bioMérieux’s global presence and diagnostics expertise to create data-driven best practices in AMS. bioMérieux provides its expertise in advanced diagnostic technologies, IT and lab automation, as well as training and quality management support. The partnerships will also focus on generating and showcasing real-world medical and economic data and best practices about the value of combining diagnostics, medical education, lab consultancy services, and information technology solutions.
“Working closely with the centers gives an opportunity to demonstrate the impact of bioMérieux integrated solutions and expertise in the fight against AMR,” said Bhargab Barua, VP of Global Marketing Integrated Solutions at bioMérieux.
By inspiring other health institutions, the Centers of Excellence can contribute to increasing the quality of care in the targeted countries concerned and improve the level of healthcare systems to the benefit of patients.
