New Model For Infectious Disease Could Better Predict Pandemics
SUMMARY
By applying ecological and anthropological methodologies to modeling infectious disease, Smithsonian researchers are hopeful these techniques will lead to a better understanding of the environmental characteristics that contribute to antimicrobial resistance. The concept of One Health acknowledges the interconnectivity among people, animals and the environment and their impact on resistant genomes. Smithsonian’s ForestGEO and MarineGEO programs may be able to function as key data sources for AMR surveillance.
