Sustainable Glass Packaging and Test Reagent Use Practices that Significantly Reduce Waste
Introduction
Nine out of 10 top global pharmaceutical companies have set targets to reduce their carbon footprint. One of the main driving forces behind the pharmaceutical industry’s efforts to reduce its carbon footprint is the rapidly changing regulatory environment following the Paris Agreement, ratified by 196 countries in 2015.
Additionally, reducing the carbon footprint provides a competitive market advantage in several ways, including increased investment from ESG bonds issued, reduced potential carbon taxes based on how much CO2 is produced, fewer fines associated with excessive carbon emissions in the supply chain incurred, leading to efficiencies elsewhere in the supply chain, and an enhanced brand image in the eyes of sustainably minded consumers.
In this poster presentation, the PDA Sustainability Steering Committee presents decarbonization initiatives by SGD Pharma, a global leader in glass pharmaceutical packaging, that supports drug manufacturers in reducing their carbon footprint and other practices employed by suppliers like bioMérieux that support manufacturers in reducing waste and minimizing environmental impact.
