Marcy l'Etoile, France - September 18, 2006. Following the death of Dr. Christophe Mérieux, Dr. Peter Kaspar has been appointed to head bioMérieux's Research & Development.
Innovation is a priority for bioMérieux, which allocates major funding to its R&D. Under Dr. Christophe Mérieux's leadership, the R&D strategy was focused on providing healthcare professionals with innovative solutions, drawing from the latest scientific discoveries, to continuously improve the quality of patient care. Sharing this vision, Peter. Kaspar will carry on the legacy of Christophe Mérieux's innovation strategy.
Peter Kaspar joined bioMérieux in 2005 as head of the Molecular Biology Department. Together with Christophe Mérieux, he designed and launched the Molecular Biology and Microsystems Center, inaugurated last April in Grenoble. In his new role, Peter. Kaspar will oversee the R&D of bioMérieux’s product lines, from basic research to applied product development, at the company’s dedicated facilities worldwide.
Peter Kaspar studied at the Universities of Münster and Berlin in Germany and in Lille, France and holds a doctorate in biochemistry. He has extensive in vitro diagnostic research and product development experience, especially in microbiology and molecular biology. From 1980 to 2003, he was in charge of scientific research at Boehringer Mannheim GmbH, then at Roche Diagnostics in Germany, Latin America and the United States. From 2004 to 2005, he was Business Development and Technology Manager at the Foundation for Innovative New Diagnostics (FIND), a non-profit organization dedicated to the development of diagnostic tests for diseases affecting the developing world.
