Surveillance System Tracks COVID Infection Hotspots in Hospitals

SUMMARY

The COVID-19 pandemic has elevated awareness of the role surveillance plays in infectious disease management at hospitals. In this study from the University of Manchester, a team has applied new viral genome sequencing techniques to detect and track the transmission of COVID-19 in healthcare facilities. Such a system could combine the movement and interaction of staff and patients with genomic sequencing of the virus, helping to signpost how best to improve patient pathways, staff movement, and reduce risk.
